Act of Kindness Stories zh

  • Walking to school.

This is an odd time to be thinking about the Paramita songs because I’m currently taking part in the 8 precepts which inhibits listening to music, but I suddenly remembered I don’t have the songs anymore and wanted them 😛 About a year ago, I lived a five minute drive from school and the “Be Green” fad was at a major peak. All of a sudden, it was the cool thing to be green (not that it’s a bad thing), so I was surrounded by people consistently preaching environmental awareness. Well, it worked; I wanted to be more environmentally friendly, so I decided I’d start taking the bus. I figured…

  • Wholesome Goodness

I lent a listening ear and time to a friend who is terminally ill. Through the months,we share knowledge on holistic cures for terminal illnesses and found time to practice what we knew. My friend found solace in confiding his inner thoughts with me, a total stranger when we first knew each other till his last days on earth. I got to share with him the little of the Buddhadharma that I knew. Hopefully his last thoughts and aspirations when he made his exit from this world would be to steer towards the Path to Buddhahood. That would have been great!

  • To ease the pain

I am looking for something, anything, to help my cousin’s husband, who is suffering from brain cancer at a young age of 40. He is now blind and partially paralysed on his right side of face and left side of body. He has trouble speaking and chewing and getting around. My cousin is strong, working and caring for their 2-year old daughter. My heart ache and my eyes tear when I see her and think about them. I hope this music can ease their pain if I can just get it to them (as my insignificant act of kindness)…amitaba

  • Valentine’s Day Kindness

I was sick on Valentine’s day (had been sick for almost three weeks) and had an appointment to be seen at Kaiser’s urgent care department. The receptionist in urgent care was quite busy with many people coming in with various complaints. She was very pleasant and helpful. I saw the doctor and after his examination and listening to my breathing, he sent me down the hall to get a chest x-ray. He didn’t think I had pneumonia, but wanted to be sure. As I got my chest x-ray, I thought about it being Valentine’s day and how these people were working to make sure people like me were being cared…

  • Transporting Sunshine

I have been called on a few times to take some elders to the Buddhist temple, Gold Sage Monastery in San Jose. The elders that I transport are the most appreciative people in the world. They say “Thank you” and “Amitabha” many times when they are getting into the car, after they take seats in the car, during the time they are in the car, and when they are getting out of the car. When they get off the car, they wave “Thank you” and “Abmitabha” so many times, till they bathe me completely in the abundance of sunshine, till I am completely speechless, and till I say again and…

  • Washing a Neighbor’s Car Windows in Winter

It is just barely above freezing, but my car’s windows are very dirty, covered with salty splash from the roads up here in Worcester County, Massachusetts. It’s 10pm, and I’m out washing my windows of my car with vinegar and water and newspaper… so that I can see out and drive safely the next day.The car next to mine is almost as bad as mine. It was a Mercedez-Benz… one of the nicer cars in our condominium’s parking lot. I felt a twinge of envy.Since many people do not have time to wash their car windows, and just struggle by, and I had the time and the equipment on hand,…

  • Turtle Mountain

Sitting in the car for 16 hours you don’t know what to expect when you reach a stop. Your body is exhausted, but you want to run laps everywhere and anywhere. This is how I felt when I went on an Oregon retreat to Buddha Root Farm. It had to be the most amazing experience of my life. Before coming to the retreat I have to be truly honest, I was not a good kid. I had straight A’s and I respected elders, but I argued with my parents and fought with my siblings. In just one week of meditating, listening to Master Heng Sure when he gave lectures and…

  • Translation

Maybe it is not priceless, but anyway. I started translating some DRBA-material from English into Dutch. This way I am getting to learn very kind and wise people. Also I’m learning a lot both on the topics I’m translating and on the translation work itself. I hope one day the Dharma will flourish in Europe too. respectfully,

  • we do not have to suffer alone

i have a sick friend who has been battling disease across the country and is very isolated with little support and ability to reach out at present. i have been having phone days w/ her quite often as a form of therapy and support, as i have battled the life threatening illness that she is dealing with presently. although at moments, i may get frustrated or overwhelmed with how to “fit” this time into my schedule, i find that it is always the highlight of my day. peace.continue to pay it forward!
