    A friend, also someone I admired, started an immersive indigenous language school in Hualian, Taiwan a few years ago hoping to save the endangered language and culture. Started from nothing, the school were able to build a classroom last year. This year, they are raising money to publish all-indigenous language text books. Many friends around me are very well off.     On a Saturday afternoon, my phone rang. It’s a call from my senior neighbor. “Hi, I want to use my camera to take pictures, but somehow it takes multiple pictures, maybe my setting is wrong. Do you know how to fix it?” Not able to see the camera, it’s difficult to understand the problem and fix the issue.     After the rain in the morning, the earthworms crawled out of the mud, but they couldn’t crawl back after being stepped on by passers-by. I picked up the 2 injured earthworms I encountered and sent them back to the garden.

    One time I let a friend live with me for a bit while they were trying to get back on their feet, which was a bit of an extreme circumstance. Otherwise it’s the usual “friend stuff” like listening to them vent about their problems–usually relationship-related, or helping them out with small emergencies.
