overworked on call residents and a gift on Christmas day
My on call residents at the university hospital were on call overnight on Christams day. They couldn’t spend the day with their family but were spending the day taking care of sick patients, serving in the path they have chosen. But still, I think staying in the hospital on a holiday overnight can be a little challenging. I was supervising them but am able to go home and have a Christmas dinner. My girlfriend and I bought them each a gift- a scarf and a book, to keep them warm and open their mind. We went to an office that is open, gifts wrapped and labeled for each of them.…

amazing miracle
i invited a few student friends away on a trip to noosa (a beautiful part of australia) and we shared some personal stories together. Maybe that weekend bonded us all for life. One of my new friends told us of a personal story of how he had helped a prosititute get out of her lifestyle of entrapment, to become something. I shared that I wanted to find a good husband and have a child. He said he would pray for me. 2 weeks later, he texted me and said “there is a guy I want you to meet. He has just moved into my apartment. He has a good soul,…

Presidential Elections…
Everyone in my college residential house celebrated the day that Obama won the elections. There was so much happiness and excitement, yet there was also one female in our house (I didn’t know her that well) who was Republican and she was harassed by some other students. She was hiding in her room and when I found her she was crying for not only her lost candidate, but because of the insensitivity of the other students. I couldn’t think of anything to say and so I gave her a hug. I hope she remembers that there are people out there who cherish all beings regardless of political affiliation.(I posted before,…

Multiple Facets of Liberation
As where i feel farther from awakening and liberating the self…i enjoy the act of liberation in the means of several different types…we here in town have a very loving, non judging, community based collective, that has inspired me greatly, there is a free lending library, they hold free music performances, etc…well i come from a place where i had chosen to live a life of humility…i was digging through dumpsters for wasted food, that was still good mind you, being freshly thrown away in knowing that spending money for more food while so much is being wasted was ignorance…well one time i found an entire bag of fresh bread…so…

As a volunteer teacher
As a volunteer English teacher in the Taipei branch of DRBA for over five years. I love to read the book of Standards for Students with the teenager students every Saturday morning. “The amount you give and you get should always be clearly distinguished. Make sure that your giving surpasses the amount that you receive.”The meaning of the words above is as our teacher’s teaching:å¸åƒè™§. So, it’s important to teach our children the Ancient Sages’ wisdom. And follow these rules for being a student. Also they can improve their English ability.

Help for my widowed father
My mother passed away in January of 1998, and I being an only child needed to help my father as his lifelong partner was not with him. For two years I labored with him doing cooking, laundry and other household chores as well as keeping in touch with him twice a day per phone calls from work. I also assisted him with his medical appointments and treatments and made sure that all his bills et al were paid in timely fashion. He eventually passed away two years later in January of 2000, but I am glad that I could be his live-in helper as his mental capacity was a bit…

Not Wasting Food
When I eat, I do my best not to waste any food so that more food can be available for others. By reducing my intake of resources, my hope is to live lightly on the earth and allow others to benefit.

Peanut Butter
Somebody told me about how they had made lunches for homeless people on the street and I liked the idea. Saturday a week later, on my way to grab some breakfast in my rush to a workshop, the thought crossed my mind to make a bunch of sandwiches. I hesitated as I thought I might not have enough time for my breakfast, but then thought best not to let good thoughts pass un-acted upon or it will never happen. That evening, after the workshop I made up a bunch of sandwiches and bought some bottled water for one to go with each sandwich (peanut butter, you know). In the park…

Kisses to my family
I woke up 3 am this morning to do my homework, and realize that I was missing something very important in my life. I went into my my bedroom, and kissed my spouse repeatedly and gently on her cheek, and held her and slept with her for a few minutes. I saw her sleeping comfortably, and left her. I went to my children’s bedroom, and kissed them and held them for few minutes, and left them. A few hours earlier, I thought my life is not worth going forward, but realize now that I need to keep going for my family. This is my obligation, and my gift, to take…
