  • A sheet of Paper

During one of my classes, in desks of four, one girl keeps on “borrowing” sheets of paper. (Usually “borrowing” equals to having) I continuously “lent” her some. Thankfully, she has stopped asking me, and has started asking another poor girl. Now to find a way to help her…

  • we do not have to suffer alone

i have a sick friend who has been battling disease across the country and is very isolated with little support and ability to reach out at present. i have been having phone days w/ her quite often as a form of therapy and support, as i have battled the life threatening illness that she is dealing with presently. although at moments, i may get frustrated or overwhelmed with how to “fit” this time into my schedule, i find that it is always the highlight of my day. peace.continue to pay it forward!

  • Rescuing Cats

My wife and I began rescuing cats when we found five abandoned cats at a vacant home on our street. Many of them are feral or have been mistreated. Once they have been neutered and have had the medical attention that they need we bring them home. We are fortunate to have property which is far from the highway, so are able to let some go outside. Presently we have 16 cats in our family.

  • Helping a friend to help herself

For the past, I try to give transportation to elderly disciples who want to come to the temple for their daily or weekly prayers. One particular lady who is unable to walked properly , has to be assisted all the time because of the surgery since her childbirth of her third son. so after many rides that I gave her back and forth to the temple, i learn that she needs more help then just to the temple, for her other personal matters. Therefore, I encourage her to reapply her benefits to a handicapped bus that can enable to do things for herself and children. We went together to the interviews and…

  • The Sound Of Dharma

It is a great way to promote the Budddha’s teaching through music….the universality of music in all walks of life. As such we have been sourcing Dharma music both in Chinese ( which is quite easily available ) and in English and try to share them amongst friends. They appeal to both young and old in a very soothing and calming ambience. This too will definitely be very helpful. Thank you and your team for the kindness and compassion.

  • Christmas with Chris

Last December, I was visiting Somik (my fiance) at Stanford. I wanted to visit my dear friend Chris who had worked with me as a scientific researcher in Washington D. C. I quit in February 2006 and moved back to India. Chris, meanwhile, had serious health issues and discontinued working. We had kept in touch and I watched with alarm as he kept slipping further and further. His kidneys had failed and he was on dialysis for survival. I had already decided that if I ever went back to the US, I would go see him in St. Louis. Somik did his act of kindness by booking our tickets to…

  • Tickets

Yesterday I gave my dharmabrother two left-over tickets to Expo Park in Daejon, South-Korea. I felt happy, and at the very moment when I gave those tickets to him my bad emotions due to buying too many expensive tickets vanished and we both felt joy!

  • Peace

I am a doctor. Seeing suffering in this world I gave up hope of finding peace. I wandered here and there trying to run from it all. Then I came across a beautiful place. It was a bright hot day. I was sweating and tired from my trek. I decided to rest and sat on a boulder next to a flowing river. It was calm, peaceful. I could hear the birds chirping, I could hear the music of the river. I could hear the cries of the insects. All seemed to be in harmony.Suddenly I realised. Suffering is only an illusion. It too shall pass on like the flowing river…

  • Prajna wisdom

I came across this interesting anecdote about the manifestation of Prajna wisdom while watching a Buddhist Lecture on television. In this story, there was an individual by the name of Mr Hardwork. Mr Hardwork was a very poor man who lived a hand-to-mouth existence in his younger days. Thus,he resolved to become a rich businessman so that he can escape from the ills of poverty. As his name suggests,he was a person who strives the best in whatever he does.Hence, over a decade,he built up a business empire that was worth billions of dollars. However,in a financial crisis,he became bankrupt overnight.Being unable to accept such a harsh reality,he headed to the beach in order…
